Fellowships/Internships
The 2014-2015 Fellowship for Advancing Campus Engagement at Hillel 818 is an initiative that is designed to enrich the Jewish community at CSUN, Pierce College and LA Valley College. Modeled after other successful FACE initiatives around the United States, Fellows will work with existing social networks, student organizations, and other Jewish organizations to build a vibrant Jewish community on campus and in Los Angeles.
We are looking for students from a variety of backgrounds with a variety of interests who are interested in becoming promising campus leaders. Fellows will work in pairs and as a group to create meaningful cultural opportunities for Jewish students to engage in Jewish life. Some will focus on “traditional” program areas, such as Shabbat and holidays or social justice initiatives, while others will focus on new students (first years and transfers), students involved in Greek life (fraternities and sororities), students who live in the residence halls or students with other specific interests, for example.
The objectives of the Fellowship are:
Hillel 818 applied for a grant and will provide stipends to all Fellows at the end of each semester. Each Fellow will have access to programming funds to support their initiatives. Fellows will work on average 8-10 hours a week and reach out to 50 new students over the course of the year.
Applicants for the Fellowship for Advancing Campus Engagement must be willing to dedicate the full academic year to their work. Applicants must not have plans to take time-off or study abroad or at another campus during the 2014-2015 academic year.

The objectives of the Fellowship are:
- To provide Fellows with a yearlong course of Jewish leadership, engagement methodology training and professional development that is valuable and meaningful.
- To empower student leaders to create opportunities for Jewish involvement that will appeal to a broad range of Jewish students than those who come to campus seeking out a more traditional “Jewish” connection.
- To create a vibrant Jewish student community at CSUN, Pierce College & LA Valley College that is made up of many micro-communities driven by the students themselves, thereby engendering ownership of students own Jewish experiences.
