Judaism, Songs, and Stories

Judaism, Songs, and Stories is a 6 session cohort experience that looks at the traditional morning prayer liturgy.

Rather than traditional text study, the goal of Judaism, Songs, and Stories is to examine the traditional liturgy through the lens of stories and songs. Some of the questions that we will be attempting to answer are: what do the melodies that we sing tell us about the prayer itself? What can the stories told about the prayer tell us about the prayer's inception and purpose within the liturgy? How can prayers that are thousands of years old make an impact on the music, stories, and art of today? We will also be flipping the conversation on its head and use the liturgy as sources of inspiration for the creation of our own songs, stories and art.

This cohort is for anyone regardless of their artistic/musical experience and will be the beginning of many substantive conversations about music, stories, art and Jewish texts.

Jewish Learning Fellowship

The Jewish Learning Fellowship (JLF) is a 10-week experiential, conversational seminar for students looking to deepen their understanding of Judaism on their own terms. We're interested in asking the big questions. You know, the big stuff like, "Who am I? What communities am I part of? What is worth committing myself to, and why?" And we don't purport to have any of the big answers. JLF helps you explore the tradition in a safe space and find your own place, on your terms, in Judaism's Great Conversation.

Israel Learning Fellowship

Join us for a 6-part learning cohort surrounding discussions on Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with Resetting the Table. Especially in times of high intensity like this one, it can be difficult to talk openly and honestly about what's going on and our reactions to it. Many of us feel like everyone has an agenda and there's no one you can trust to tell the truth. Others have so many conflicting and ambivalent feelings and we don't know where to start. Or maybe we know exactly where we stand and what we think - but we are having trouble communicating with people who aren't on the same page. This is for you.

We'll be diving deep into the history and current moment of the region, with explicit attention paid to the different narratives told from Jewish, Israeli, and Palestinian perspectives. Participants will gain tools to speak across differences in viewpoints and an opportunity to discuss, share, and listen in a non-judgmental facilitated environment.
