Hanukkah Message from President Beck
Dear CSUN Students,
As Hanukkah begins this week, my heart is with you. This should be a time of joy, celebration, and gathering with loved ones. Instead, we are confronted with the devastating attack in Sydney this weekend, where Jewish families celebrating this cherished holiday were targeted in an act of horrific antisemitic violence. I am heartbroken by this senseless tragedy and by what it reveals about the hatred that persists in our world—a profound failure of our shared humanity.
In the face of such hatred, the themes at the heart of the Festival of Lights—perseverance, resilience, and the power of light over darkness—feel especially profound this year. As you observe Hanukkah, I want you to know that you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone. Our Jewish community enriches CSUN in countless ways, and I am deeply committed to ensuring you thrive. Please know that the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, University Counseling, and the Office of Equity & Compliance stand ready to support you and safeguard your well-being throughout your college journey.
May this Hanukkah bring you moments of light, hope, and connection with those you love.
Chag Sameach.
Erika D. Beck, Ph.D.
