High Holidays at 818

This year, Hillel 818 had the opportunity to celebrate the High Holidays with our students in new ways, bringing together community, tradition, and plenty of good food.

For the first time, we hosted a second-night Rosh Hashanah dinner! We gave students a chance to welcome the new Jewish year around the table with friends.

Then we came together again for Yom Kippur. After a day of fasting and reflection, students gathered where we served bagels, cream cheese, vegetables, juices, and honey cakes to break fast.

For the 818 community serving thousands of Jewish students across the San Fernando Valley, these moments matter. Some of our students shared that this was the first time they practiced these traditions, others were grateful to have a place to go while they are away from home, and some just enjoyed a few extra moments with their friends at Hillel 818.

Seeing what these events meant to our students, we can only feel so much excitement to do it again and again!
