March Events Recap

This past month at Hillel 818 was filled with joy, creativity, and meaningful connection as our students showed up to celebrate Jewish life in vibrant and diverse ways.

We kicked things off with a truly magical Purim celebration. Students took the stage for a lively and imaginative Purim Spiel, bringing humor and energy to the story in their own unique way. The celebration continued with a masquerade party, complete with a live magician who left everyone amazed and delighted.

Community and connection were at the heart of our Family Shabbat, where students and their loved ones gathered for a warm and welcoming evening. Sharing a meal, stories, and traditions together created a special space that felt like home for everyone in the room.

Our students also got hands-on in Sushi Making 2.0, led by our Springboard Fellow Abbie. This fan-favorite event returned with even more excitement as students learned new skills, rolled their own creations, and enjoyed the fruits of their labor together.

To kick off Pride Week, students joined our Makerspace program led by Springboard Fellow Sadie, where they expressed themselves through watercolor art, painting images that reflected their identities and passions. The energy carried into Pride Karaoke, where students sang their hearts out, sharing favorite songs and celebrating one another in a joyful, affirming environment.

We were honored to host Beyond Labels: Amjad Faris’s Story, where the Israel Fellow from SDSU shared his personal journey as an Israeli Druze. Students had the opportunity to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue that broadened perspectives and deepened understanding.

Throughout the month, Hillel 818 remained a hub for students on the go. Our Lunch at Hillel provided a delicious and welcoming break in the middle of busy days, giving students a chance to recharge and connect with friends.

Jewish learning continued to thrive through our Prayer Workshop, where Rabbi Jess made tradition more accessible by exploring prayers one at a time, creating space for questions, reflection, and growth.

We closed out Pride Week with a beautiful Rainbow Shabbat, celebrating and uplifting our LGBTQIA+ students. It was a powerful and affirming way to end a week centered on pride, identity, and community.
